Paul,

Can I infer from the omissions in your response to Cirruslvr, that Intel is switching over to socketed SMP? ;^)

Paul - RE: "Those vendors better hope AMD can sell about 10 to 15 million K7's per quarter to take up the slack !"

As Intel transitions the PIII to the socket, AMD will ramp up the K7. While I would love K7 sales to reach 10-17 mil. per Q, it probably won't happen but at least those vendors will still have something rather than nothing to do with those already built products.

"AMD is going to look PRETTY STUPID coming out with a SLOT A while Intel's Celeron sales are accelerating in Socket 370 and the Coppermine will also appear in a Socket in September !"

Intel looked PRETTY STUPID coming out with a SLOT 1 Celeron while AMD's K6-2 sales accelerated on Socket 7.

Our hindsight is 20/20, but your foresight may not be.

"AMD = Intel - 2 1/2 years !"

With the Celeron: Intel = Intel - OVER 2 years!

"AMD = Intel - 2 1/2 years."

Coppermine:32k L1 cache.
K7: 128k L1 cache.

Coppermine: 1.5 pipelined FPU's
K7: 3.0 pipelined FPU's

Coppermine: 133 MHz bus
K7: 200 MHz "bus"

Yes, AMD is really lagging this time! Will they survive with such an inferior product as the K7? Oh nooooooo..... don't die, AMD! Coppermine is the end of AMD, everyone! Run for the hills! Sell any AMD stock you might have and ask for your proceeds in pure gold! Because they don't take American Express in "the hills".
