What company did he go to?
Thanks,

Hi Gary,

I am glad to have some meaningful discussion with you. Although I
suggest Cisco should buy Juniper, I don't really believe that it will
happen. The only point I try to make is that it is a possibility.

<< Now, onto your new points. The cisco GSR12000 may have some limitations however it's compatibility with Cisco higher level protocols make it the product of choice for many customers. So, although Juniper may be taking some business from Cisco (and other vendors) in the core I believe Cisco continues to grow this business.
>>

Cisco actually is developing GRS+, or Juniper killer, in attempt to
capture majority IP core Network. But, Cisco is big and slow. It is
unknow as when they are going to deliver. I think you are correct in
that Cisco is continue growing significant revenue in this market. My
source told me the run rate for this year on GSR12000 is like $400Mil
may be more. But this market is big enough for both Juniper and Cisco.
Without Juniper, Cisco could have all of them by itself.

<< Your comment about Cisco building a "new IOS" as being impossible... you're certainly entitled to that opinion. I can't argue an opinion. >>

Cisco IOS is big Mess and very difficult to maintain and further
develop as well as upgrade. To throw the old IOS away and develop a
new one is also very difficult since the new one will not only
required to have all the greatest features old IOS possess
but to have compatibility with all the existing installed base to
protect customers. The architect of IOS is like big web. Every a
bit change have the potential to impact rest of OS. Juniper has
modulize their software for a greater flexibility for new upgrade.
The new IOS has been going on for more than two years, still no sign
of delivery. Who knows, may be Cisco can pull this through.

<< Oh, one final and significant point. Tony Lee left Juniper 2 weeks ago. OUCH! >>

It is true, Dr. Tony Li has left Juniper after three years employment.
This is certainly a test for Juniper maturity. We have to wait and
see how much impact to Juniper future.

Best regards,

Gary,

It seems a lot of new super router discussion revolves around Juniper. Juniper may be doing well in this small but exploding field, so I wondered yours and others opinions on the people like Juniper. From what I gather, all these companies are making terarouters and CSCO is not yet among them.

Avici
Argon
Nexabit
NetCore
Pluris
Aranea (the name of the router from MRVC's Charlotte's Web connection)
Lucent

Why is so much hype put on Juniper when others seem to possibly have a good chance to take business in the years ahead?

Message 9735902

Seems like the Aranea here BLOWS Juniper out of the water. Am i seeing things? Wouldn't some people be interested in a terarouter doing both IP and ATM and packet over Sonet? juniper doesn't do ATM or packet over sonet and doesn't seem anywhere near as scalable. i would like your opinions on these matters.
