> >Xinex Networks Inc - News Release Alpha testing program for Vortex completed Xinex Networks Inc XNX Shares issued 28480277 1997-05-23 close$0.44 Friday May 23 1997 News Release Mr Roy Leahy reports The company has successfully completed the last critical milestone of the alpha testing program for Vortex by introducing the initial voice and telephony functions to the established data and video systems announced April 16 1997. The latest phase of the alpha program integrates the initial platform of data and video functions with the telephony functions of the Vortex Controller and Vortex PC Phone. The company started the inhouse alpha testing program on schedule, March 31 1997. With the introduction of voice and telephony functions to the alpha network, the company has eliminated the final technical risks of development and now has a stable system running on company desktops. The alpha network is now carrying voice, data, and video traffic using a priority scheme that ensures that constant bit rate applications, such as voice, always get the bandwidth that they need to maintain a high quality of service, without sacrificing LAN performance. With the completion of this latest milestone the company has now proven that the Vortex architecture will deliver a quantum improvement in cost effective, high performance, multimedia communications for small and medium size workgroups and businesses. It has demonstrated the viability of its design of a computer telephony unit for the desktop, consisting of a PC and a telephone operating as an integrated unit. The layering of CTI (Computer Telephony Integration) features for its commercial launch later this year can now proceed rapidly. As well, the company is currently in discussion with several potential clients who have expressed interest in being beta test sites for the first commercial systems release. The Vortex alpha system provides an interactive environment in which users can collaborate simultaneously on complex documents such as graphics, spreadsheets, or engineering designs, while seeing and talking with co-workers in other offices. The system is dynamically configured, allowing moves, adds or changes to occur at will without disruption to other users. In addition to telephony functions the system provides the ability to use Windows based data applications, such as Microsoft Office, as well as provide Internet access, e-mail, printer sharing and modem pooling. The video component is currently being implemented through Intel's Proshare. Vortex will ultimately support numerous video systems. Vortex is an innovative, multimedia office communications systems that integrates the functions of sophisticated telephony systems (PBXs) and local area networks (LANs), while delivering advanced voice, data, and video applications over most types of existing telephone-grade wiring to the desktop. This high speed system incorporates the newest communication standards, such as ATM and TCP/IP based ISDN, to give business a true competitive edge, through such capabilities as videoconferencing and improved Internet access. | ||||||||||||
