Ever wondered about the qualifications of the reporter who wrote a piece on the "world economy" in the business pages of the "Time" or "Newsweek" magazine? I did. Often people take their words for gospel truth, a dangerous thing to do if you are betting your money on it. I have nothing against those reporters, but often I wondered about the reliability of their data and opinions.

Believe it or not, we have many more knowledgeable and well informed people than several reporters of famous magazines who post regularly on SI. They are here for the same reasons you and I are here. Access and share information that would help improve our investment returns.

However, these days the number of posts on SI are on the rise while good posts which one can confidently say "this is a must read!" are on the decline (as a percentage of total posts.)

I have no intentions of starting a record number of threads on SI. But it so happened I was looking to read some of the best posts from a single place on SI. I couldn't. So, the idea of this new thread is to bring the best of the best to the attention of everyone on SI. That's why I started this thread.

A few requests for posting on this thread:
0. For all the posters who would bring to our attention these great SI posts, my thanks in advance.

1. Post links to anything you find worth reading on SI (or the messages themselves!)

2. The subject matter can be anything - economics, stock market, investment strategies, an explanation on business cycles etc.

3. The notes should be thought provoking and WELL WRITTEN (I guess steve has to work extra hard to make it here. -g-) We could care less if the note is full of opinions without facts supporting the opinions. [Often, facts are out there and no one need to state them exclusively.]

4. Let us reserve every note in this thread for something that is worthwhile reading. PLEASE DO NOT CLUTTER THIS THREAD WITH UNNECESSARY MESSAGES like "a great idea for a new thread. (If you must, please post it to me on another thread.) Also, no need to thank every person who posts a good link here. See #0 above!

Here is a starter:
Subject: What was behind the unbelievable surge in US stocks in 1997?

Here is another great post:
Subject: How "bubble" economies are created!

Good luck to all!

PS: Why are these posts better than the magazine articles? Good questions. Here you can talk to the suthor back and make a judgment on the reliability to yourself. That is not the case with the magazine articles.
