Sweet-Ripe Drinks, Mississauga, Ontario, Canada (905) 670-0638: I spoke with Helen Gillespie, Vice President of Contract Packaging Services at Sweet-Ripe Drinks, Ltd. on Monday, 8/24/98. Ms. Gillespie made the following comments concerning TCBG: "Sweet-Ripe Drinks is a private company operating three beverage packing plants." "The Children's Beverage Group is a new customer of Sweet-Ripe." "There are two TCBG Volpak machines currently in a Sweet-Ripe plant. One machine is completely installed. Installation is nearing completion on the second machine." "Sweet-Ripe has executed production runs on one Volpak machine." "Sweet-Ripe will be installing and operating three or four Volpak machines in total for The Children's Beverage Group." "The Volpak beverage pouch technology is proven in Europe but is new to the U.S." "We are excited by our relationship with The Children's Beverage Group." Following this discussion, I talked with Jean-Pierre Perrault, TCBG's Vice President of Manufacturing. He made the following comments: "Two Volpak machines will be in production at Sweet-Ripe by Wednesday, August 26." "TCBG is holding quite a large order for Wal-Mart. We are waiting for film (the packaging material itself), which we need in order to begin Wal-Mart production." "Wal-Mart is a four machine account." "Tetrapak machines have a production rate of 105 packs/minute. We are initially operating the Volpak machines at 107 pouches/minute. We plan to increase production rate to 112 pouches/minute. "End-of-line packaging at Sweet-Ripe will initially be done manually" "We will be installing robotic packaging equipment at Sweet-Ripe in November. The packaging equipment vendor is Prototype Equipment Corp. of North Lake, Illinois." - (I have not checked this out - AC) Jean-Pierre also stated that Cliffstar will be installing TCBG Volpak machines at two Cliffstar locations - Joplin, MO and Fontana, CA. Daymon Associates, Stamford, CT (203) 352-7500 By talking with support/administrative personnel, I was able to identify the individual at Daymon Associates who is handling the TCBG account - Mr. Rob Albrecht, a Business Manager. When I spoke with Mr. Albrecht on 8/25/98, he responded that it is Daymon Associates' company policy not to discuss client relationships, and he referred me back to TCBG. Cliffstar Corporation, Dunkirk, NY (716) 366-6100 I spoke with Sean McGirr, Senior Executive Vice President of Cliffstar Corporation on Monday, 8/31/98. Mr. McGirr made the following comments concerning TCBG: "We have an agreement in place with TCBG to produce, market and sell their beverage pouches, which will be primarily private label." "We are in the process of installing 5 or 6 (Volpak) machines in two of our plants, Fontana, CA and Joplin, MO. Four machines are currently on the premises, a couple more are on the way." "We intend to have 8 to 10 machines installed and operating by the end of the first half, 1999" "The (July 24) press release notwithstanding, I'm actually pretty excited about it" - (the TCBG relationship). Wal-Mart, Bentonville, AK (501) 273-4000 I spoke with Bob Anderson, Vice President, Private Label For Wal-Mart on Monday, 8/31/98. Mr. Anderson made the following comments concerning TCBG: "The roll-out of TCBG product under Wal-Mart's Great Value brand will be in about 60 days." "TCBG product will be initially going into Wal-Mart's Supercenters. No decision has yet been made concerning a company-wide roll-out." "Wal-Mart has about 2,400 stores of which about 500 are Supercenters." "Supercenters are approximately 110,000 square feet, of which 40,000 square feet is food and beverage items." "If this item (TCBG's pouch) does well, and they continue to drive cost out of it, we will certainly consider a company-wide roll-out." "If I didn't think this was a good idea, I wouldn't have done it." If they look like this post, post them here, if not it's just spam! | ||||||||||||
