Metawave Communications is putting the spotlight on cellular phone antennae. Metawave's engineering services and software-driven antennae increase wireless network capacity and decrease signal interference. Its Spotlight 2000 system divides a site's coverage pattern into 12 fixed beams, which enable an antenna to reject outside signals and improve reception. The system also compresses frequency-hogging analog signals to make way for sleeker digital signals. Support products include SiteNet and LampLighter software, which configure and monitor system performance. A direct sales force sells Metawave systems in the Americas and Europe; more than half of its sales are outside the US.
