The past few years has seen a consolidation within the Networking Industry, where telecom and datacom industries had been historically separate industries... now being consolidated into a 'networking industry' as technologies, markets, and more obviously, companies, begin to merge - blurring the lines.
The Optics industry, or fiber optic market, Photonics industry, how ever you wish to classify the bigger picture, is also on the threshold of a consolidation of sorts - as "light" begins to play a more dominant role in network transmission systems. While establishing their niche in respective areas, passive, active, fiber, and systems component suppliers are already seeing a chess game of sorts in who may acquire who in order to come out the dominant player - and leader of standards in this industry.
This forum is intended to facilitate discussions regarding this trend, if there is one, and in particular, discuss the 'consolidation' aspect of who's looking at who...
