Oshkosh Truck makes heavy-duty vehicles for the defense, fire and emergency, and commercial industries. About 40% of sales are from defense contracts. The company's specialized vehicles are designed to withstand environmental extremes from desert heat to Arctic cold. Oshkosh's range of commercial and emergency/rescue vehicles includes concrete carriers and refuse trucks (McNeilus), snow removers, and aircraft rescue and fire-fighting vehicles (Pierce) for vocational, airport, and municipal markets. The company has focused on its commercial and emergency/rescue businesses following defense cutbacks in the late 1980s.
