This advertiser supported service allows users who subscribe to get 2 free minutues of long distance calling for every 15 second (the maximum allowed) advertisement they listen to after calling 1 877 FREEWAY. Test trials with tens of thousands of users in the Midwest have been encouraging and they are now rolling out the service nationwide. This service will undoubtably grow quickly as new users boast to friends and family that they are spending add listening time rather than money to make the call.
Whether Broadpoint can remain viable in the long term remains to be seen but the demographics collected upon registration at their web site (http://www.broadpoint.com) and immediate feedback via subscriber "dial through" should help marketers hone advertising messages to match the nuances of freeway subscribers.
I hope this thread becomes active as the service grows in popularity (I wish I had some way of investing in it!).
