3DO has been restructuring from being a hardware developer to being a software developer for more than two years. Today, it looks like the restructuring is about to pay off. The company is led by Trip Hawkins who previously founded Electronic Arts. Hawkins is a visionary who anticipated the growth of electronic commerce and interactive entertainment -- he just expected it to occur over cable TV lines instead of phone lines. Today AT&T and @Home are laying the lines that will bring internet over cable lines to the masses. 3DO has been a pioneer in internet multiplayer computer games -- as the higher bandwidth of cable internet access becomes widely available, 3DO should be in the forefront of the interactive entertainment that develops. Meanwhile, 3DO is bringing to market about a dozen high quality games that run on the Playstation and Nintendo 64 systems which are already at a peak in market penetration. Unless I've missed something, I think 3DO has successfully transformed itself. Please enlighten me if you think otherwise. Bruce | ||||||||||||
