Flycast Communications is trolling the Internet looking for the catch of the day in online advertising. The company helps e-commerce companies, direct response marketers, and interactive agencies plan Web advertising campaigns. It sells ads on its network of nearly 800 affiliated Web sites that have unsold space or that do not have advertising sales forces. Flycast's network includes midsized sites such as The Onion, BabyZone, and HeadHunter.net. Advertisers can broadcast their messages across the network, or they can target specific categories or Web sites. The company's proprietary AdExchange system coordinates ad placement and provides advertising performance reports for clients.
