Japan Asia Investment Comapny (#8518) is funded by Japanese companies belonging to the Keizaidoyukai, a group of industrial corporations. JAIC is a Japanese venture fund. JAIC has offices across Asia and in Silicon Valley as well as Japan. The company has a new President and recently announced an ambitious 3 year plan that prompted Nomura to raise its rating on the stock to 1 (bullish). See Nikkei/Dow Jones article below. Wednesday, December 15 1:32 PM SGT Japan Hot Stk: Japan Asia Invest Up After Nomura Rtg Hike TOKYO (Nikkei/Dow Jones)--Shares of Japan Asia Investment Co. (J.JAI or 8518) went up their daily limit in midafternoon trading Wednesday after Nomura Securities raised its rating on the firm by one notch to a bullish "1." At 0521 GMT (12:21 a.m. EST Tuesday), Japan Asia Investment shares were limit-up at Y850, up Y100, or 13%, on the over-the-counter market. The 4.4 million shares traded topped Tuesday's total volume. In upgrading JAI's rating, Nomura endorsed the firm's three-year management plan unveiled at its interim earnings seminar in late November and at other meetings. Nomura revised upward its projection of the firm's parent operating profit to Y1.7 billion for the full year through March 2001, and to Y2.3 billion for the year through March 2002. One dealer said the stock also attracted buying from short-term players ahead of the Dec. 27 start of market making - in which brokers will quote prices at which they are prepared to buy or sell JAI shares. Brokerages that choose to make markets for selected OTC stocks are permitted to set the spread between bid and ask quotes.
