VANCOUVER, British Columbia--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Dec. 23, 1999--
(OTCBB:MEIX) -- The world's largest and fastest growing trade
exchange, Australian-born Bartercard, recently announced record trade
figures for the 1999 calendar year.
"In early December Bartercard passed the $2 billion mark and (in
the process) established a world record for trade volume," said
founder and Chief Executive Officer, Wayne Sharpe.
Bartercard reported a global trade volume figure of $610 million
for the 1999 calendar year.
"This has capped off a significant year for the company and is
further evidence of our tremendous growth and success since we began
just nine years ago.
"In November Bartercard Ltd -- the Australian arm of the
multinational company -- recorded in excess of 56,000 trades between
members. On one day alone Australian members traded $6.6 million worth
of goods and services.
"Globally we managed to sign up 750 members a month and will be
pushing for 10,000 members in 2000," said Sharpe.
The opening of two new offices in Malaysia and Lebanon saw over
200 new members join Bartercard's growing membership list in just the
first month of operation.
"Across the Tasman, New Zealand has been showing extraordinary
growth with 155 new members joining in November and a total of $130
million was traded throughout 1999 -- an excellent result considering
there are only 3,000 members.
"Meanwhile in the UK we doubled trade volume to just under $40
million," he added, "and with spectacular growth in our new operations
in Malaysia and Lebanon a sign that the trend is set to continue in
2000 and beyond."
Bartercard operates in over 50 offices in 9 countries and
employees over 600 staff servicing over 30,000 businesses (members) in
trading goods and services without cash.
