Guard Inc. is a company developed by the University of Guelph, Ontario, one of the leading research universities in Canada. It is partly owned by the University. Its role is to take ideas out of University laboratories and into commercial development. Guard Inc has given life to three subsidiary companies, in quite different areas. Nanodesign is an innovative drug design company with patents on a novel approach to new therapies. Nanodesign has just received its first revenues by entering into a formal research contract with a North American drug discovery company. Using its patented Evolutionary Molecular Design (TM) (EMD) technology, Nanodesign models "virtual" receptors for drugs, which are then used to generate new lead compounds for synthesis and testing.
A second subsidiary company, Magnos Technologies, is a health-care device company which is developing a new form of bone densitometer, a device used to detect bone thinning (osteoporosis), especially in elderly and female patients. New financing for Magnos Technologies has just been arranged by a private placement that has added Canadian $ 1.1 million to the company.
A third subsidiary is Elite Display Systems Inc. which is in the business of developing flat panel displays. Other projects of Guard are involved with animal breeding to obtain superior immune responses in livestock.
Guard is an unusual company, in that its value is underpinned by the determination of a major Canadian University to develop successful technology transfer, and to support that determination with the funds of the University's Alumni Foundation, and by the private investments of University Alumni and other investors.
So far Guard's stock price has not felt the rising tide of prices on the Canadian Venture Exchange. I am long in this stock because I feel it is undervalued and little known. Unlike the majority of companies listed on CDNX, this is not a Consolidated Moose Pasture mining venture, nor is it that newer reincarnation, Moosepasture.dot.com. Guard is an incubator company, and some or all of its nest eggs may not hatch, so do your due diligence. Here is a chance to play biotech, electronic tech, and other areas with one investment. You can find out more about the company from its own web site and from globeinvestor.com. Good luck.
