Our IPO of the week, Giganet, is focused on one of the fastest growing areas of broadband communications. Its high-speed wireless access equipment offers network providers a solution that can transmit voice and data services at rates comparable to those found in fiber technologies. In addition, its access equipment provides completely symmetrical transmission speeds (equal upstream and downstream rates), a quality often lacking in alternative broadband solutions, such as DSL or cable. By combining the speed of fiber with the time-to-market and cost benefits of wireless, Giganet's products are serving an appealing dish to emerging communications providers. Giganet has already begun shipping its products to over 50 service providers in 20 countries. Its customer base includes well-known wireless communications providers Advanced Radio and WinStar. In addition, it has agreements with large equipment manufacturers Nortel and Siemens. Although it has a short track record and still relies on a few large customers, it has next-generation wireless products in a lightly penetrated and fast growing market.
