Motive Communications - Another Vignette or another DrKoop? From Hoover's: "Motive Communications sees your technology concerns as its motivation. The company makes Internet help desk software and PC diagnostic tools that help customers resolve computer problems. Kmart, Oracle, Merrill Lynch, EDS, and other clients use the company's software to provide their customers with online information, diagnostic testing, self-help tools, support team question-and-answer chats, and supplier interconnections. Motive Communications is forging bundling pacts with Compaq, Hewlett-Packard, Dell Computer, and other manufacturers to boost corporate business. Founded in 1997, the company is owned by a group of investors that includes venture capital firms Austin Ventures and Accel Partners." My Take: Motive was tentatively scheduled to IPO on Oct 9, 2000, but in the midst of a weakening IPO market has delayed again until the week of Nov 6, 2000. Morgan Stanley is the lead underwriter. This one bears watching closely. It's gonna be big! Another Austin, Texas IPO/company of the same ilk as Vignette and Tivoli. Not just a flash in the pan, but a company with a real future, involving revenue and profit. Additionally, I'll be surprised if the $10 - $12 initial price range holds.
