Fingerprint Cards AB B-shares are quoted on the O-list of Stockholm Stock Exchange (Om Stockholmsbörsen). The company is based and maintains headquarters in Göteborg, Sweden.
In conjunction with public introduction, additional stocks at SEK 150 million were issued. The company now has approximately 7,000 shareholders. Major shareholders are Mr. Lennart Carlson, President, and the venture capital company "Affärsstrategerna AB", which, in turn, is quoted on the Stockholm Stock Exchange. Highly qualified individuals are tied to the company's administration, technical development, finances, and marketing. The design and development of sensors, microprocessors and algorithms involves some thirty in-house and contracted engineers, holding Masters or Doctors degrees in engineering sciences. All systems design and project management resides at our Göteborg Headquarters. We also have technical operations in Trondheim, Norway, Linköping, Sweden, and Delft, The Netherlands. Design matters are contracted to the well known Hampf Industrial Design also in the Göteborg area. We also established a European marketing office in December 1999. Fingerprint Cards moved to new quarters in central Göteborg which allows us to meet current and future needs of engineering, project management, marketing and administration.
The Fingerprint Cards business approach is to develop electronic fingerprint verification technology based on the company's systems patent. The technology we have developed is licensed to companies marketing products in which personal user verification is an integral part, and for which at the present time primarily PIN codes or passwords are used. Technological development includes the creation of a prototype series and production documentation for the sensor and microprocessor chips. Fingerprint Cards sells licenses for the developed technology. For the most part, components are thus integrated into the licensee's products through a more or less close cooperation between Fingerprint Cards and the systems company's own in-house development organisation. We believe this to be the most efficient manner in which to reach the end user, while assuring optimal system design and minimizing time-to-market. A licensing agreement with Ericsson was entered into during the spring of 1998. Demonstration units for cellular phones were developed and displayed by Ericsson at the CeBit Fair in Hanover in March of 1999. These demonstrators have been further developed to improved performance during 1999.
Fingerprint Cards has also developed units for a number of other applications. These include a unit for access control and wireless units for area or computer access. Some of these developments are performed in cooperation with systems companies in varying fields.
