Reuters News Service, Friday, September 7: A new Internet worm, “Code Blue” has emerged in China akin to the "Code Red" worm, which caused $2.4 billion in estimated cleanup costs on Internet-linked computers last month… In the United States, the first Code Red worm infected more than 250,000 systems in just nine hours on July 19, shortly after it was first reported, according to the National Infrastructure Protection Center at FBI headquarters… In August, a second version of the worm emerged, preying on computers and servers linked to the Internet running a version of Microsoft Corp software called Internet Information Server (IIS).

Front page of InternetWeek Magazine, August 13: Hidden Virus Threat… A mass-mailing computer worm that pairs itself with other dangerous viruses and wakes up other dormant ones is wending its way through PCs worldwide… The SirCam worm scoops up documents in an infected PC and e-mails them to people in the users address book. It also sends infected documents to e-mail addresses found in Web files that are cached on the user’s hard drive… Potentially most damaging is the worm’s ability to enlist other viruses lying dormant in the user’s files… Sircam has infected more than 100,000 computers in the U.S.

What has all this got to do with our pick this week? Read on… PACEL Corp. (OTC BB: PLRP) is a small computer security software company located in Manassas, Virginia, a suburb of Washington, D.C., that just may have found a revolutionary solution to the world’s computer virus woes. From the news stories above it is apparent that some of the recent macro viruses got past the standard anti-virus software. Once past this outer guardian, they ran from within a common word processing program, copied themselves using a mail system address book, and began deleting all media files. The anti-virus companies caught on quickly and were able to make an update available within 24 hours, but by then extensive damage had already been done…

PACEL Corp.'s patent pending PACE Module (Pre-Access Control Element) could have prevented this destruction. Using the company’s software, the macro virus would not have had access to the address book, would not have been able to delete media files, and would have alerted the user that “something” was going on… all without the need for frequent updating. PACEL’s soon to be released product, e-Centurion, protects the "inner door" to your computer files from access by an unauthorized process--virus or other--that has penetrated the "outer door," normally protected by a firewall and anti-virus software. PACEL Corp. has developed a new and powerful approach to PC file protection. Its patent pending e-Centurion software compares what is trying to access your files against a list of approved applications for any particular file or type of files, thereby permitting access only to approved applications. e-Centurion is more than an "anti-virus" product, e-Centurion actually protects your PC from viruses that enter the system when your anti-virus software fails. Unlike current anti-virus products, e-Centurion doesn't need updating when new virus strains are released; it simply prevents a virus from executing. This innovative software protects computer data from attacks by blocking hackers, preventing malicious access by computer viruses, and secures personal privacy by preventing attempts to steal information from files.

The PACE Module allows computer users to configure files, file types (JPG, AVI, DOC, TXT, etc.), and directories to prohibit all access or to permit access only by authorized programs. It can also designate files as "read-only," "read-only by authorized applications," "no copy," "no move or delete," and similar combinations. The PACE Module works with Windows, but does not interfere with normal Windows operations. Performance is unaffected and setup uses standard file operation conventions. The PACE Module works simply by inserting itself between the file system and the physical storage of the files. Any file operation must go through the PACE Module. In this way, the PACE Module can examine the file request combined with the name of the application making the request and determine if the requested access is allowed or prohibited. The power of this software resides in its unique approach of examining not only the file being requested but also the name of the application making the request. Software that only looks at the filename has very limited usefulness - it’s all or nothing. But by combining a filename with an application name, a whole new area of possibilities is opened…

In addition to e-Centurion, PACEL Corp. also offers its Childwatch™ family of security products. ChildWatch's flexibility allows parents to take control of their children's computer use. Features include logging of sites your child has visited, and file folder and application blocking. On June 21, 2001, PACEL announced the release of ChildWatch Pro ™ the newest member of PACEL's ChildWatch family of Internet filtering and PC security products. ChildWatch Pro ™ was designed to meet the special needs of school districts and public institutions such as libraries, which must comply with the latest Federal mandates regarding child access to the Internet or risk losing their special discount rates for Internet access. Unlike other filters designed for institutional use, ChildWatch Pro ™ does not require add-on hardware, and it blocks only pornographic web sites, which are among the worst of the “nuisance” web sites and also a primary concern of parents. Pornography is also not considered “protected” free speech under the First Amendment. ChildWatch Pro ™ does not use keyword filtering and filters only pornography, which is not protected free speech.

On July 25, 2001 PACEL Corp. reported that for the three months ended June 30, 2001, sales were $226,000 for a total of $429,000 for the six months ended June 30, 2001, compared to $58,000 for the second quarter of 2000 and a total of $116,000 for the six months ended June 30, 2000, an increase of $313,000 or 270%. The company intends to continue to focus its efforts on the marketing of the Childwatch™ family of products and e-CenturionÔ anti-virus software. Only limited revenues from the Childwatch™ software have been realized to date due to marketing delays.

In a recent interview with Wall Street Reporter Magazine, David Calkins, CEO of PACEL Corp. revealed that IBM and Lockheed-Martin are very interested in testing an NT version of PACEL’s e-Centurion anti-virus software… wallstreetreporter.com
In addition there is speculation that a major company is about to sign on the dotted line with respect to bundling of PACEL’s software… Stockprowler.com cannot overstate the potential of e-Centurion… and the potential of the underlying stock, PLRP. Though the risk is very high with any OTC BB stock, the upside here could be a moon-shot. Presently, there are 118 million shares outstanding. PACEL Corp. has recently filed with the SEC to increase the number of authorized shares from 150 million to 650 million. This filing is a re-filing of an earlier SB-2 filing. We believe the current depressed stock price already represents the potential dilution created by the earlier SEC filing, and it is our opinion that in the present economic climate, a small OTC company has but little choice than to obtain financing through increasing/ and sale of its shares. However, we believe this issue will prove to be irrelevant as word of PACEL’s revolutionary e-Centurion anti-virus software product begins to spread on Wall Street… Shares of PLRP closed Friday at 1.6 cents on volume of 704,600 shares.
