Okay' here's what you've missed so far:

Three stories going on.
Jack is CTU, sort of like CIA. His boss has just been killed, he had info of plot within the organization to assassinate Presidential candidate. Jack now has a mag card with info of who might be involved.

Jack's daughter is MIA with another high school friend with two other boys up to no good.

Some terrorist group is putting their plan in motion to assassinate Palmer, the Presidential candidate. They have stolen some photographer's ID and blown up a 747 in the sky.
