ZORAN CORPORATION
Zoran's chips handle multimedia tasks quicker than Zorro handled a sword. The company makes specialized integrated circuits (ICs) and software for digital video and audio compression applications. Its JPEG-based products compress images for PC editing and for use in color scanners and filmless cameras, while its MPEG-based products compress video and audio data for DVD players. Zoran also makes audio processors and IC cores for video encoder and decoder chips. Its customers include Fuji Photo subsidiary Fujifilm (29% of sales), Lucent, Minolta, and Toshiba. More than four-fifths of Zoran's sales come from clients in Asia.
It seems to me the potential for this company is huge considering that now with 90% of the average household containing VCR's and 30% containing DVD players, this is bound to change places in the coming years with the advent of DVD technology. With also recent announcements from Circuit City and other retailers that they will gradually phase out VHS tapes and VCR's, the earnings potential from companies like Zoran Corporation could be enormous.
