Companhia Vale Do Rio Doce is a large global diversified mining company. The Company is a large producer and exporter of iron ore and pellets, as well as a producer of manganese and ferro-alloys, which are very important raw materials for steelmaking. CVRD also produces copper, bauxite, kaolin, potash, alumina and aluminum. The Company is a logistics service provider in Brazil, where it owns and operates a series of railroads and ports. It also holds stakes in steel companies in Brazil and abroad. CVRD's headquarters and main assets and operations are located in Brazil, with offices in New York, Brussels, Tokyo and Shanghai. It owns companies in the United States, France, Norway and Bahrain. In addition, the Company has won an international bidding process to explore coal deposits in Mozambique and to explore potash deposits in Argentina.
