In 2006 Alcatel (ALA) and Lucent (LU) became history as stand alone companies and the merger between these two communications equipment giants was completed. Initially Patricia Russo, formerly Lucent's chief executive became CEO of Alcatel-Lucent. Effective December 1, 2006, Alcatel-Lucent shares began trading on Euronext Paris and the New York Stock Exchange under a new common symbol ALU (ALU.PA and ALU.N).
