Visicu, Inc. operates as a healthcare information technology and clinical solutions company that focuses on transforming the delivery of hospital-based critical care through its eICU program. Its eICU program comprises an eICU Center with direct data, video, and audio links with each ICU patient room, as well as eCareManager suite of software products. The company’s eCareManager system and services enable customers to establish and operate an eICU Center. The eCareManager software suite processes the data from the vital sign monitoring and other hospital systems to alert the eICU staff to those patients whose conditions are deteriorating or who are in need of immediate intervention. Visicu also offers technical and clinical implementation services, as well as ongoing product and program support and reporting services. The company sells its eICU program primarily to multihospital systems and networks of community and rural hospitals. As of December 31, 2005, the company activated 27 eICU centers that served 173 intensive care units in 97 hospitals and monitored approximately 2,250 intensive care unit beds. The company was founded in March 1998 by Brian A. Rosenfeld and Michael J. Breslow. It was formerly known as Integrated Critical Care Management, Inc. and changed its name to ICUSA, Inc. in June 1998. Further, the company changed its name to Visicu, Inc. in October 2000. Visicu is headquartered in Baltimore, Maryland.
