State run fiat currencies are dodgy at best, kleptocratic normally, inflationary and hyperinflationary leading to financial desolation and actual desolation. Gold and other commodity currencies are stone age, depending on material objects to provide scarcity value. Those are commonly stolen, lost and in any event are hard to move around. They also cause people to waste a lot of effort digging up more of them, which is a huge waste and no more productive than Moais on Easter Island though keeping young, idle, surplus male hands busy is a good idea = the devil finds work for idle hands.
