Beijing Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd. (Xiaomi Tech) is a privately held Chinese mobile phone company that was founded by Lei Jun, the former CEO and current non-executive Chairman of Kingsoft, along with 7 cofounders in early 2010. The company started receiving mass media coverage after it released the Xiaomi MI-One, a low cost but high quality smartphone in September 2011. The company also developed Android based MIUI (now at v5), a custom firmware for mobile phones, based on Android. Xiaomi sells most of their smartphones online, in small quantities pinning their success on the combination of short supply and high-quality, low-priced products.
