Beijing Xiaomi Technology Co., Ltd. (Xiaomi -- pronounced SHAO-mee) is a privately held Chinese mobile phone company. Its backers include Qiming Venture Partners, the venture capital arm of Qualcomm and Digital Sky Technologies, an investment firm run by Yuri Milner, an early backer of Facebook, Groupon and Zynga.
The MIUI (in English) website is here: en.miui.com
_________ [Despite the fact that Xiaomi is not yet publicly traded I've placed it in the Technology Stocks forum]
Xiaomi Mi branded handsets sport a highly customized Android deployment called MIUI (now at v5), and are linked to a range of cloud services provided on top of the handset, have their own market (as opposed to Google’s play store), and have around 200,000 pieces of content. Xiaomi sells most of their smartphones online, in small quantities pinning their success on the combination of short supply and high-quality, low-priced products. The company started receiving mass media coverage after it released the Xiaomi MI-One, a low cost but high quality smartphone in September 2011.
Xiaomi was created and is led by Lei Jun who was formerly CEO and is current non-executive Chairman of Chinese software provider Kingsoft. Xiaomi has a total of seven co-founders: Lei Jun, the founder, Chairman and CEO of Xiaomi, Lin Bin, the co-founder and President of Xiaomi, Li Wanqiang, Zhou Guangping, Huang Jiangji, Liu De, Hong Feng, co-founders and vice presidents of Xiaomi.
No company’s annual revenue reached the $1 billion mark faster than Xiaomi, not even Amazon, which took five years to get there. Xiaomi did it while earning a profit. Xiaomi sold over 7 million handsets valued at over $2 billion in China last year and it expects its revenue to double this year. Today Xiaomi Tech employs 2400 employees and is planning to enter overseas markets by the end of this year. Their (Chinese language) website is: xiaomi.com
