Of course the development environment and libraries are important. But that's not an issue with a VS plugin. Sorry for leaving out the link for that quote, it was Message 13880022 . A previous note from that poster:

Intel's compiler is a plug-in to the MS environment. Message 13880003

My point was that if the Intel compiler was reliable enough to use for entire applications, people wouldn't need to mess around optimizing just the critical parts.
