Something has perked things up a but today, up 3/4 so far. If it isn't the renewed 300mm issue, what could it be? PRIA was upgraded on what must be expectations of new handling gear for larger wafers.

Anyway, is a clear victory for Memc anyway? There must be other competition in 300?

Regards,

Mark

Zeev,

Again, my glasses have a more permanent rose coloured tint.

There already are the consortium's pilot lines taking 300mm wafers.

Other companies will be doing technology buys of equipment and wafers starting this year. (equipment first, wafers second naturally)

2 200mm fabs will be in production during 2001. INTC's current schedule is for 2002 production.

So I see a steady increase in the much higher priced 300mm wafers starting by or before YE 99, with a significant ramp up next year; and the start of the migration in 2001.

What's changed in the past 10 days is that we now have a relatively firm target for the 300mm migration. Before then, it was an ever receding target much like trying to get to the horizon.

My 2¢ worth.

Ian.
