Re: ... Tobin is a very steep face... yes indeed and there are at least two of them.

But the feeling on the street or what passes for streets in NFLD is that Tobin and his minions are testing the waters to see what the voters are feeling.

Many people feel he should be nailed to a cross if he waivers on his no smelter no mine stance but Tobin no doubt would see that as a fitting end.

to reword a old joke "What is the difference between God and Tobin?
Ans: God doesn't think he is Tobin.

Anyways a lot of people are starting to feel that there is room for compromise and thus when Inco comes out with a modified proposal within 6 weeks I feel there will be some room for meaningful negoitations. Tobin being the spin miester that he is will be able to put the proper spin on it to save face both provincially and nationally. After all, it is Nfld's worse kept secret that he will not be premier for much longer as he has his eye on the prime ministers as if he would have a chance against Paul Martin.

From Voisey's Bay Nickel point of view the worst case scenario is that there should be at least enough room for optimism so as to see some positive price movement in the upcoming months. Only a couple of months ago a brief meeting between Tobin and INCO officials caused a ten percent(approx I think) increase in the share price of VBN shares.

cheers
