Ten,

Wow, only a $124 premium for 128 MB of DRDRAM compared to PC100 SDRAM? Some people spend more to get a SCSI hard drive over an ATA drive

This sort of price difference obviously is impractical for Timna type products. Hopefully DRDRAM prices will decline dramatically over the next few months, though I'm not sure what will drive it.

Tenchusatsu,

Is it fair to assume that for a Timna-class sub-$200 PC would use 256 Mb (32 MB) or 512Mb (64MB) RDRAM? Do you expect 256 and 512Mb RDRAM chips to exist in Yr2000 and Yr2001. If so, what do your estimate the premium would be for this kind of configuration?

Chuck

Ten,

Remember when George Bush and Colin Powell decided that the Yugoslavia situation was too difficult to get involved in, and that it would cost tens of thousands of American lives to get involved?

Of course, as usual, Clinton just got lucky. Right?

RE: <Wow, only a $124 premium for 128 MB of DRDRAM compared to PC100 SDRAM? Some people spend more to get a SCSI hard drive over an ATA drive (myself included), even if the performance difference between SCSI and ATA isn't all it's cracked up to be (from personal experience). Tenchusatsu>

But you're not typical of the ~100M pc buyers. $124 in a PC is big time expense and is probably more than the entire profit of the box makers. And it remains to be seen if any performance advantage at all can be demonstrated in the typical system. Much more likely to see a perf loss.

Maybe to you, but to OEMs it is DRDRAM is 163% more expensive.
