pms witch...since early this year the news about the pc market has been negatively overexagerrated..the preponderance from the so called experts has been nothing but overkill regardless of the facts..thats what we object to..not good analytical information...its the bias of opinion the stinks ..when the street says they dont believe michael dell when he says that dell is gaining market share from other vendors and it is supported by the facts ..what do they base their conclusions on ?.. in my opinion it is based on nothing but irrational non exuberance on their part..why they have this reaction i dont know..but i do not like that kind of news..cnbc stinks with it....

PMS Witch,..Re:. a brief explanation

Valid PnF sell signal
i.e when TYX (long term rates) started rising in early Feb.
PnF charting gave a valid and timely bond sell signal.

Message 10253118

Also I understand that PnFers got a market sell signal last July 17 right before a big sell off on July 22nd. Will look up the data if you want but don't have time now.

One simple explanation of PnF charting.

Re:.Those who are upset by your analysis have a responsibility of supporting their criticism with facts, for without facts, we're simply exchanging opinion.

Unfortunatly, many reply to any opposing remarks without the least bit knowledge of what they are talking about. Many claim that courteousness and manners are the basics of their upbringing but as you've read, this is far from fact.

Lee,

I suspect that P&F charting will work better for indices and bond prices than for individual stock prices.

It purports to track supply and demand and this probably works better where the law of large numbers can come into play in a big way.

It would be interesting to see what the reliability of the buy and sell signals for both the indices and a stock like DELL over different time periods.

Setting up the P&F Charts appears to be unclear. The "optimal" box sizes could vary with each stock or indices. This problem is a recur

TD said that this P&F should not be used by itself but in conjunction with the fundamentals of stock or I would guess the conditions of an overall market. So it is just one more tools that can be used in combination with other tools to generate buy sell indications.
It is an interesting tool.

The newsletter I saw from Dorsey did not discuss the fundamentals of the companies he was analyzing. The recommended stocks did nothing remarkable for the two month period I followed them.

Regards,

Jim Kelley

It's not only about facts, it is also about interpretation.

PMS Witch,

If you decide to try your hand at point and figure charting of DELL, or any stock or index, you can also stop by at my point and figure web site ez-pnf.com I have a shareware point and figure program that you can download for free to try out. All you need is some historic price data (you may already have data if you use programs like MetaStock or TC2000 or MegaTech or have ASCII/text price data files) and you can create your own p&f charts. You can also select you own 'box sizes' or try log-scaling for box sizes (this makes each box an exact percentage change from the one above/below it eg you can have a chart that has 1% or 2% or etc% price change boxes).
