One improvement that would make me happy:

Something like this:
unicus.com

Reduce the width of the table to 70%. This way people with large monitors don't get a overloaded with blue bands. Makes the messages stand out more. The message is what makes SI what it is. Maybe grey or something that doesn't hit you in the face like the blue.

I still feel the color bands need to be cut back in size. Too much color. Still way too much clutter, your eye doesn't go right to the message, distracted by the massive amounts of color.

EDIT:
Brad, this seems to be a problem with "LARGE" monitors. On my notebook the new site doesn't look that bad, but on a 21 inch, it's terrible.

Brad: One suggestion for the new site - an internal mail system

Brad,

I realize that we can send private messages to anyone we want on SI. What I would like to see is a mail program that could send the same message to two or more people at the same time. On some systems when the user cuts and pastes in order to send the same message to several people it hogs the memory. My system, the Apple iMac, has crashed many times because I was trying to privately message the same thing by cutting and pasting a few people on SI. Also a few negative comments on the new site follow the idea below.

This new function would help to spread the word to our friends on any topic very fast.

The ideal would be: The user selects from a pull down menu all the names on his "people" list. This pull down menu would automatically be updated every time a user book marked another SI user. There would be a check field box next to each name. The user would "X" (mark or select) the boxes of people to set up a mailing list. Hit a button and changes have been updated. He or she would hit another tab to send multiple messages. People chosen would receive the same mail. Some type of spam deflection may have to be installed so SI users are not receiving garbage all day long from other SI users. An example would be maybe a maximum number of multiple messages per 24 hours, limited to a batch of say 15 names. Exceed the limit and your mail function is frozen until the next day. Mail from certain people could easily be refused by another program. The honor system might work for awhile but it would be good to know there is a back up.

Is the sky the limit in making SI the slickest investor board on our planet? If you need more info on this idea or other messaging ideas, Brad, please contact me.

The new site looks like Raging Bulls site...
The print is way to small on the iMac in the subject discussion area. I know I can increase font size but that function is slow to take hold in Netscape 4.5 (you need to press it several times, wait each time before it actually does any thing). The "Classic Coke " is a breeze to read. I also know I can increase font size on 4.5 "preferences" menu.

Cool?

Brad - Can you please tell me why Anthony@Pacific has been suspended? Many of the regular posters who have their own threads violate SIs terms and conditions of use and they are not suspended or terminated. It appears that all Silicon Investor members are not treated equally.

IMHO, Anthony has contributed significantly to Silicon Investor. He has protected the individual investor from many unscrupulous characters pumping and dumping stocks.

Sincerely,

:)

Brad! Your rascal brother left the back door open and all the shills are starting free memberships and threads for crappy stocks.

Check and see if they are all on the same computer, will ya?

They must be having a party in Vancouver or something.

Brad. When you do come up for air, I'd really appreciate it if you could answer my private message I sent you about a week or so past.

Can't take you more than two minutes to answer thems two questions....which if you added as the feature you were toying around with about a year ago would never be necessary for me to ask.

BTW, I only been gone about a week, this thread, all of SI is starting to look like a grade school playground. I know a bunch of all these GURUs are only about 100 miles south of where I'm at right now. Maybe I need to drive my scrony butt down there and kick some a$$e$.

I might have it all wrong, but are they all fighting over their lemmings? Not enough to go around anymore, and can't make enough selling as they are advising them to buy?

P.S. This is really cool having the market close at 1 o'clock local time. Hell, the marine layer is just starting to burn off by then, and I see a helluv lot more sunshine. But alas, gotta head back to the wrong coast here soon.

Dear Brad,

I am normally one to only play on the peripherals of this once great playground. But now I feel as though you brilliant creators have overstepped your bounds.

First a note to Mr. AugustWest: Please come on down and bring a big stick, you're going to need it. We're waiting.

I would like to point out that Mr. West's post was just as threatening as my reply and I find it offensive.

Second, Why do you folks insist on creating an information vacuum?

What's next eliminating links to Yahoo! posts? Or do you think that Yahoo! is so far beneath you that it is not a threat of competition.

Think about this next board meeting.

You are losing good contributors, despite yours or my opinions of them, simply because you refuse to allow free speech. Non-offensive, TOU, free speech. Apply an even hand and you will receive one in return. Else you may never keep your head above water.

Good Luck, and Good Day,

V

OK Brad, I have a question, one that you have been asked many times before, but so far are avoiding.

What has happened to the MostBookMarked People List and Most BookMarked Thread List????????

The only thing I have seen that even remotely resembled an answer was when I asked Jeff some time back and he passed the buck to you saying you were on your honeymoon. Well time is up! Just answer the question.

You can give us new features, buttons, charts, 10 post at a time, etc, but you can't take away something you started, at least not without an explanation.

It is just one of those fun things. Actually, to be honest, I could care less about bringing back A@P, just bring back the MBP & MBT lists! I just want to know if there is someone really interesting or a topic really interesting I may be missing.

Ok I've decided to make this easy for you. Just check the appropriate box, copy and paste, and we will all know the answer and you won't have to play ostrich any longer.

__1. I am NOT going to continue with the lists. I am tired of feeding you peoples ego.

__2. I promise I will start posting the list on the first of each month. Please accept my apologies for being so tardy and not answering everyone's questions about the list.

__3. I put it on hold because I was smitten with love and lust and as soon as I settle into this marriage thing I will post the dang list.

__4. I have better things to do with my time now that I am a gazillionaire.

Brad, will you let us know before you fix or catch the bugs next time?
So I won't sit in my computer for 12 hours hoping SI would come back soon.

I had such a severe panic,
I ran to Yahoo junk yard and RB to post away.

But it doesn't give me the same fix as the SI postsings does !

Silicon Investor should team up with Cafe Press...because of their referral program->

SIers can create and sell their own T-shirts, mugs, mousepads and more with their own designs on them. All you have to do is just upload a picture,
It's Easy, Stores are FREE, No Setup fee, No Inventory.

With SI 1000s of subscribers they could be making alot of dough (depending on the level of referral, 1 1) 50 cents, 2) 25 cents, 3) 15 cents, 4) 10 cents per item sold)

CafePress cafepress.com

Cheers,
Urlman

P.S. Brad if you sign up I'll get a referral through a cookie
( notice the "?urlman" at the end of the url ) ;-)

Brad,

I'm involved with the S&P futures trading contest over @ the "Players Club" thread. We have alot of folks over there who are putting alot of time and effort into trading the futures for educational and analysis purposes, but those efforts are being thwarted due to the very simple fact that S.I.'s clock that time stamps posts is running fast again versus the actual time. To see the actual time, you can pick it up off this site here: quote.lycos.com. It looks like S.I.'s clock is about a minute and a half fast, which distorts our results in the contest and is an undue burden on our contestants.

Is this something you could take care of please?

Thank you,

David

We're busy fixing bugs! We'll come up for air soon, once the real show-stoppers have been taken care of.

Brad, long six months since you came up for air. Those "show stoppers" musta' been some winners.

My vote it to bring back Brad and let him do his work.

No polotics involves. Just, GNET suck it up and admid you blew it!

P,S, Brad I miss you. You werre the last link to integrity SI ever had. I miss the old days. But let's see some changes, with you in charge.

Okay, So let them blavk ball me. I don't give two poops. I love SI, but love has turned distain since you left.

P>S> Hey Russ, if you got a pea breain left in your head, bring back brad at what ever the cost. He da' man.

pps, If I were to say Gates reminds me of Hitler(in the sense of taking over the world, that'd be okat. But If I say Russ seems the same it's criminal. Right? LOL. You are screwing it up!

HAhahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahaaaaaahahahahahahaha

Hey Brad, hope things are well with you.

Guess you haven't been around for a while. Take my word FWIW, don't come up for air any time soon. The new GNET/SI really is a pathetic experience any more.

Good luck!

P.S. Thanks for a few years of good memories
