Good post. But I guarantee you, I'll put money on it, I'll bet my Cheeky reputation on it, THAT SI will NEVER have an ignore poster feature, and I agree with that stance. Freedom of speech.

That is one thing that makes SI different from the pack.

Now how about some feedback?

Well said. It is indeed the posts that set SI apart. This is where the focus for improvements should be.

1. Improved searching

I think this is unanimous among users. If this thread can accomplish this goal then it is worth the effort.

2. Performance improvements will help me read more posts so I can find the good ones. "Next 10" is a start, but why not "All Remaining" too?

Agreed. Custom options would be best here..ie next10..20..remaining. Also Read replies and reply to message inside the multiple post option.

Another post-improver enhancement is the ability to selectively ignore certain posts.

I used to think this was a bad idea. Now I say go for it. At minimum it will reduce the number of posts asking for it<g>. At best it may reduce some of the squabble...hopefully the threads will not turn into discussions about ignoring each other. Hopefully there will not be too many redundant posts as some readers chose not to read posts and therefore post something that was posted two or three posts earlier. "You Turkey..that was just posted yesterday...can't you read?"

Suppose there were a button in the response window somewhere, where a poster could, optionally, flag their post as OT. Then another filter option could be added to the profile where a person could choose to ignore OT posts

Good idea. Most likely there could be other options as well..ie check the box if message contains a link.

More ideas

A correction option. Two months after writing a post one discovers an error. Not an edit function but a correction message "box" at the bottom of a post.

A 'price stamp' in the message. When I review old posts and old price predictions would also like to follow the price movement at the time. Current 'price stamps' show todays value..not the value at the time of the post.

A real spell checker. One that offers suggestions. I know one can use a word processor and cut and paste but it is inconvenient. The cut and paste option often carries formatting problems.

The ability to see returns in an edit screen. It takes a long time trying to remove returns when they are not visible. One has to post..look for premature indents edit and remove. Most of the time it is considered too much work so poorly formatted posts are used.

The ability to bookmark posts and make the selected posts available to other readers. Some posts are of high quality. It should also help redundant posting. Some issues are talked about over and over and over and ....something like a custom FAQ option for a thread.

A mouse scroll option in the edit screen. Pulling the slidebar to scroll is not one of my favorite things.

John, sometimes you read a post and because you disagree about a certain aspect feel compelled to respond. Other times the post echo's so many of your thoughts you feel no need to respond.

In other words, well said! And my feedback is "I agree". I also agree with the "ignore poster" issue. I can't personally see myself using the feature, but I can understand why others may want to.

I wonder what the feasibility is of maintaining two different sites for a while, then monitoring the usage on each one for popularity? I've been keeping both sites up lately and really trying to stick with the new beta version. Inevitably I keep switching back to classic after a short amount of time. Not exactly sure why, I'm sure just being used to the original has a lot to do with it, but there is something more and I can't quite put my finger on it. Maybe it's just the colors. But I don't know....
