wingate.com

sygate.com

Sygate/Syshield Wingate...are these programs really necessary?

Are there any free alternatives?....But with the difficulty I'm having configuring the network it may be worth it if they help me accomplish my goal...Or will I encounter the same problem?
windows95.com

winfiles.com

windows95.com

I have my lan conection to the internet for both computers...I just haven't hurdled the filesharing problem...aren't these above programs concerned w/ security?

I'm afraid you have a somewhat more complex problem then
yuu think.

One think at a time. FIRST enable the NETBEUI protocol in
both PCs network configuration. Then at least the PCs will
be able to see each other. For that purpose you can forget
about IP addresses.

After you've managed to communicate between the PCs,
then you can worry about getting to the internet.
This is going to require something like Wingate or
similar software. BUT first get the two PCs talking
with NETBEUI.

The basic problem is your ISP is assigning an IP address.
You have no control over that address, so you
can't assign another IP address on the same subnet.
So your PCs can't talk via TCP/IP. NETBEUI doesn't
use IP addresses. It won't solve all your problems,
but it will get you started.
