I can't disagree with you. The role of the stationary PC will have many years of continued use. It may evolve into a master computing device that will act as a server for many household computing devices and also a great work station for doing heavy computing tasks. Still, the thread is not to question the role of the PC, but to identify the role of the Cell Phone and it's evolution into something greater. There are more cell phone users today than Internet users. Next year, all new cell phones will WAP compliant, meaning they will have some data capability. That will cause an immediate increase in Internet users and it will evolve some pretty amazing Internet applications. The question is who will emerge as leaders? I am looking at Phone.com, Symbian, Spyglass to name a few, as well as the larger players Microsoft, Lucent and Cisco/Motorola. There will be content providers like MapQuest and Microsoft's Sidewalk.com, there will be hardware providers like Nokia, Motorola, Ericson, and there will be client side and server side software providers. The whole subject gets so big, it's nearly overwhelming. That's been my reason for trying to create a central location where we can discuss the array of companies and approaches that might succeed. Taking the consideration a step farther and yes you have the AutoPC, and home internet devices such as the set top box and the net phone, as well as tons of little processor based items that could evolve out of Sun's JINI projects. Perhaps to stay focused though, we should start with mobile devices. Thanks for your comments. Regards, Mark
