<Inventory at end of June was better than at end of March, and it was in good shape then. More units to be sold in Sept q, but offset by lower ASPs (good for HTCH).>

Yes. Good because they supply the specialty suspension for the flex and if SEG starts buying TSA that'll be another plus. It would make a good press release also.

Still, the sector is sucking. They are all going to have trouble regaining any respect, if they had any, from the street.

I did see where Adflex beat estimates. They are being purchased by Innovex. Might turn out to be a good deal.

Sam,

Thanks for the excellent notes. I don't think I will even bother listening to the call - your notes were so good. You have saved me an hour to spend on other things!

Sam,
I also listened. My impression is that SEG is going to get the share they believe they desreve whatever the cost. This type of bloodbath also makes one wonder if Samsung or WDC can be driven out. On the other hand, someone like Samsung might be looking at riding it through given the TV disk drive opportunity. -Z

SEG messed it up big time. They loose money in the desktop segment and continue to loose market share in the high end region. That they didn't match their own guidance was plain stupid and the CC gives a pretty clueless impression. They seem to have lost control over their business. All they can hope for is that some competitors are driven out over time as they cannot stand the losses anymore. All in all, I believe the signs for QNTM stand better than ever, new competitive drives, the technological edge with the ATLAS 10K and DLT as inbuilt cash provider. The tracking stock is the icing on the cake driving the stock price towards 30 (although today is certainly a setback).

Sam, thank you much for your detailed discussion!
You asked for comments on...

they said (at different times, in different contexts) that no one who is not vertically integrated can hope to compete successfully long term on either the high end or the low end. This is a question which we have debated on this thread, and I would ask anyone who has read this far to throw in their 2 cents on whether they believe it.

Whatever a company decides - to vertically integrate or not -
is thought best at the time they do it. I would be presumptuous
to second-guess from a distance. These decisions require much
more detailed input than any of us can muster. Two companies can
come to opposite conclusions, each making sense in context.
