"Liberal" is certainly not a vulgar word in the same sense that "dickhead" and "dittohead" are, Christopher, but when it is combined with the word "press" it is usually meant to be pejorative.

Furthermore, the concept of "the liberal press" is an unexamined cliche, used to designate a non-existent thing.

End of subject, as far as I am concerned. I have been through this one too many times.

Joan

Anybody today who pretends that science is non-political is blowing smoke.

I should not go quite so far out on this limb as you. However, the difficulties in funding that scientists get as well as the poor publicity they receive when their work challenges the "accepted" can make an enormous difference. As Terry's post reminds us, the Wright brothers' achievement was regarded as a hoax and utterly disregarded by many.

In fact less than two weeks ago the Department of "Justice" was quoted as saying they did not believe that the settlement was large enough!!

Take, for example, the purported link between breast implants and various diseases. It was trumpeted by the press as clearly proven, and led to the bankruptcy of at least one company, but has now been clearly shown to be nonexistent and based on possibly deliberate misreadings of limited and invalid "scientific" proofs. (But was THAT proof trumpeted in the press?? Not on your tintype.)

The CO2 readings today are the highest that can be found in the past hundreds of thousands of years. The ionosphere has descended 5 miles on the last 50 years. These are measurable facts, not opinions. You, like Rush Limbaugh, use cutesy immature jokes to try to discredit good science. This is nothing to joke about.

How did you determine that the current warming is a "natural" occurrence? The majority of scientists think that global warming is real, and caused by man's activity. If they are wrong you dittoheads will have plenty of time to ridicule those who are trying to do something about it. If your side is wrong we are in deep shit, and you deserve more than ridicule.
