It is legal to short OTC BB stocks from a canadian account, but not from a usa account. Other countries besides canada also allow it.

I have a question. On a buyout, would it be typical for the CFO, COO and other officers in the company to know if the company is considering a buyout offer, or typically would that be something only the board and maybe ceo know about? Anyone know?

BB stocks can be shorted but not in the USA. As I recall stocks that can't be margined (all BB stocks) and listed stocks under $5 can be shorted in the USA but foreign mrkets do allow this. Most of the shorting is done in Canada.

message threads that have been consumed with talk of a "massive, illegal, naked" short for over a year now.

This is one of the most common myths (i.e. lies) from BB stock hypesters. It is never proven and almost never true; but like used car salesmen, these guys know which sales pitches work to draw in new BB stock buyers.

BBs can be shorted in the US as legally as any other stock, I do not know how this rumor ever got started. They can be harder to find but with the better brokers and an adequate cash balance they can be shorted. At least I know I have shorted them. Also, to dispell another silly rumor, there is no legal price limit for shorting a stock, I have been as low as 1.25 and the only thing that has kept me from going any lower than that is fear:)
