I agree that it is preferable to exchange ideas with some decorum, but there will sometimes be points where things get a bit stirred up, as when rich4eagle or rvgent buzzes through, and sometimes it takes awhile for people to get their blood settled. truedog, for example, is a nice fellow, but when things heat up, he is determined not to be played for a fool, and, being somewhat blunt, he calls a spade a spade. Then chalu 2, who appears to be a moderate Republican, gets somewhat patronizing, and instead of settling truedog down, it sets him off more. For awhile, then, he only trusts those of us he has come to know, and any false note may rub him the wrong way. Finally, if there is no more irritation for awhile, he regains his good humor, and is once again a pretty mild tempered guy... I only use TD as one example among many...

I wanted to add something: I am an unusually polite guy, so I try to be understanding until the offense is pretty stark, and I answer your points as nicely as I can. But do you comprehend that it is intrinsically offensive to say that Republicans starve kids to put change in millionaires' pockets? You say that you are just interested in intelligent discussion, but those are fighting words. I figure, well, she doesn't understand something, maybe if we talk it out----- But some of the guys feel like you have just demonized them...

How can issues be discussed dispassionately when your side has such as distorted, perverted, fun house mirror view or our side's intentions and motives?

I cannot justify taking food away from hungry children so a few millionaires can get a tax-break.

You're right, it is sad.
