Frank, I keep reading you on all my favorite threads and as alway enjoy your posts. LU and NT may be "old switching" players but they are incredibly formidible when it comes to innovative technology for fiber. CISCO seems to be a little lacking here although the could acquire the expertise. I have to run for a week and a half vacation, but I will relax in the wood of Maine knowing that you and the rest from the last mile will be spreading the faith. Lets see how many more interesting announcements LU has over the next few weeks. Also I am truly turning into a believer of the everything over glass via IP paradigm. Its a ways away but LVLT, GBLX and others that have fallen out of favor during the so called bandwidth glut are very interesting now.

Regard
Steve L

Yes, Frank ...thanks, I too thought CSCO...but NT rang the bell.

On the topic of VPN's....who are going to be the players there in security for them (the VPN's) ? I'm trying to compile a list.

Frank,
What I think is interesting is what we have all suspected for some time: namely, the shortage of equipment for transit above OC-3 speeds. Remember QWST's comments on the conference call about the shortages in this area, as well as others who play in this space about spot shortages. QWST takes an inordinate amount of CSCO's equipment for high-speed equipment, leaving precious little room for others. LVLT moving in with NT (and LU) seems to me to be the right decision, given the company's build schedule. Should demand for bandwidth surge as I believe, those providers who are shut out of the market for equipment above OC-3 will play a secondary role in the data comm world over the next few quarters and years. Ah, the advantages of being facilities-based just became greater! Just my opinion, but keep an eye on the equipment guys, as well.
