Re: "As I see it, you are questioning the mere existence of the K7"

Now you're being silly. I am fully aware that there is a K7 and that it is a fine design. Furthermore I am aware that AMD has been able to produce a limited number of samples for evaluation. These samples perform very well, in fact they perform better than Intel's counterparts in most benchmarks. What you and the others disciples don't seem to realize is that this doesn't constitute a product. A product is something that can be manufactured in volume. There is no evidence that a product exists, or will exist in the foreseeable future. If you are thrilled by foils then you must love the MIA-thlon because it really excels there, no question about it. But if you are interested in shipping systems and corporate financial reports then you will be sorry to hear that from that perspective there is no Athlon. You can't buy one. I can't buy one. Nobody can buy one because it isn't out there. That will change some day but that day isn't here yet and there is no information to say when that day will come. That's what's got these AMD devotees so upset. Can't blame 'em.

Till then.... MIA-thlon....missing in action

re: "The entire buzz about the K7 from reputable news sources is fictional. id software is basing a huge show on a non existence piece of hardware."

I have to admit that despite my desire to keep the faith; the stock is acting as though we are in for yet one more piece of bad news. There is no selling of the stock; but, there, is no buying either. If, indeed, IBM and Compaq are ready to ship in large quantities starting on 8/10/99 (the semi-public whisper date) there should be some leakage of buying by aunts, uncles, and other relatives of those who are covered by AMD's NDAs. There should be some start of a run up soon if the rumors we believe are true.

Maybe not, given all the past egregious experiences.
