He's trying to hide the fact that subs/passed is weak. How do I know? I tried the
same subterfuge with Jing and saw it was hollow.

That's right. The subs/passed ratio is getting weaker in all of the already upgraded area, such as Fremont. Especially for those area where @Home has been available for over 1 year. They are only supplied constrained in all of the recently upgraded areas. Yes, TJ is right depending on which area he was pointing to. I feel it will be pretty easy for ATHM to ramp up the subscription number to couple of million because of the initial thrust. However, after more and more areas are maturing, the subs/passed ratio has to be weakening.

ATHM must do something radical in order to capture the mind share of most subscribers, if they ever dream of becoming AOL II. In the end still the contents will rule, not just the pipe.

Couple of options:
1) Reducing the price to something comparable to AOL to rid ATHM of the "toy for rich kid" image. Pricing is the top cause of a weakening subs/passed ratio in upgraded areas like Fremont, CA.
2) Partner with a powerful outside media giant to deliver top notch contents.
3) Making installation easy. TJ said that DOCSIS modem is on the way to Dell, Compaq PCs, that's good.
4) Scale the network so that they won't suffer the same fate as eBay's.

If they can do all of the above, ATHM's future is pretty much secured.
I really hate AT&T that they fail to see that content is king. I hope AT&T can enlighten themselves soon enough to curb further damage to ATHM.

BS, SUBS PASSED may be low in your way of thinking for some foggy negative thinking reason. I say subs passed may be low because we have just started to sign them up. We have not even tried yet. Your subterfuge with Jing ??? - If you say you are playing games I suppose you are.

TJ is correct and you are wrong if your post meant to say the demand is NOT out there. Oh yes, the demand is there. In most areas, ATHM has been limited by the lack of qualified installers. A positive thought for you to consider now is that we will improve in all areas regarding getting a new sub hooked up.
