I think what the fed is really worried about is the trade deficit, not inflation.

(i agree with your post, though, this 1/4 point is psychological stuff, but why is Greenspan on his crusade against the market if he is going to turn aroudn and flood the marketplacde with money to ward off supersitiosus selling. IS HE AGAINST IRRATIONAL EXUBERANCE AS WELL AS IRRATIONAL FEAR? JHG
