unclewest,

My son was able to stop by Pixelfusion yesterday. He called me late last night (woke me up!) and told me he was very impressed. Says he now believes Rambus is no longer "vaporware" <g>. We didn't get into any technical details and what he saw had no direct application on his type of work, but his impression was that next generation games (Rambus) will knock your socks off. He also said something about military applications, that's when I nodded off......LOL.

Re: nintendo has used rambus for the past 4-5 years

Yes, and in that time it has gone from being the "Intel" of the videogame industry to being the "Cyrix". Is rambus the kind of parasite that kills its host? :-)

Just kidding, everything I've read says it was nintendo's attempt to rigidly control 2nd party game software that let playstation take market leadership away from it.

OTOH, that seems vaguely reminiscent of Intel's attempt to control the 2nd party memory market. But sony does seem to have decided to use rambus in future products. As I've said before, due to low pin count and reduced circuit board real estate costs, rambus is an excellent choice if it can be kept cheap.

Performance expectations for rambus

Re: we all need rambus
Shouldn't we have some idea of what we expect from rambus? Here's my take:

Memory Type____Price/PC100__membench/PC100_mmxmix/PC100_________busapp/PC100
PC100__________100__________100____________100______________100
VC100__________103__________134____________121______________103
VC133__________115__________171____________131______________103
Rambus 800______150__________225____________145______________106

Is this about what you are expecting to be announced at the Intel developer's forum?
