The latest drop happened two weeks ago was due to a confusion with the $265 million merge news from Checkpoint Systems. Almost any big news from these two companies would mess up the stocks of them. At current prices, CHKP is still very cheap if you compare with the lead networking/internet players. I won't be surprised if CHKP crosses $100 mark in this year. Net security markets are still very very young. Checkpoint is still very very young, although it has been playing a leading role in the security markets. All of e-commerce related products must be secured with VPN or other future security technologies. If you want to ride each small up-down wave, you may trade without your eyes off the screen. In this way, you surely will be able to make $$$. However, I suggest you to take the big industrial cycle instead. It means to put your CHKP shares under your pillows until you feel the growth of Checkpoint slowing down significantly or no longer making money for you. It will bring you $$$$$$$$$....$

Hi Analog Kid,

Heard on Thursday a presentation in Israel by CHKP CEO, Gil Shwed, and let me tell you that I never heard him so bullish. This presentation assured me what I felt lately that CHKP has becoming the Gorilla of the IP Networks security.

Here are some notes:

Q2 was so strong that he asked customers with large ordered installations to postpone shipments. (Check deferred revenues in the Balance Sheet which went from $12M on 12.31.98 to $21.4M on 06.30.99).

They do not see real competition.

As for y2k slowdown fears he said that he does not know how he can handle the demand if y2k was not here.

As for Q3 he said that he feels this year that nobody is going for vacation on August according to the demand.

He has great expectations from the new products they announced on August 30.

He sees 50% growth toward the end of the year versus 35%-40%
he forecast at the start of the year.

As for split he said "I do not see economic advantages beside commissions to brokers".

Regards,

Shlomi.

Analog,

Originally I set a price at $80 a share, but got out way before then due to a lack of discipline and other percieved opportunities. It is interesting but quite a number of issues have gone up 3 to 4 time since I sold CHKP.

IMHO current levels have a bit of a speculative flavor and you might want to milk it, but, still, you might be in for a nasty surprise if expectations are not appropriately matched.
