<< screw the people that come after us..that is the future>>

Just maybe the company does not owe their employees medical care for the rest of their lives. Just conceivably people are responsible for their own care. You seem to paint a picture of unbridled corporate welfare in which a retiree "deserves" premium medical care from an employer they may have left decades ago. Well my employer doesn't provide it, nor do most in this country. BA employees have been part of a pampered labor elite for decades and I say cheers to Stonecipher for standing firm on the idea that a corporation's responsibilities to it's past employees has its limits. Walk if you wish: just don't come bleating to me for unemployment benefits- and don't resort to thuggery to prevent BA from hiring others who may be more amenable to BA's terms.

Marvin,
Well, what do you think of the proposal (and anyone else, for that matter)? I don't have time to scrub the details but I perused the highlights on the internal web and they looked pretty good from my perspective. Yet Johnson says it's unacceptable. They've pulled the non-standard work week, pulled co-pay for insurance, offered a good salary increase with signing bonus, and will contribute increases to the retirement plan. What's left? Surely not the retirement plan control issue (company managed vs. union). I remember the Dave Beck run Teamster days and somehow union control of retirement plans doesn't seem like a good idea to me.
At any rate, good luck to all. I hope the contract offer is agreeable and it's accepted and a strike is avoided.
