SMS for non- techies

Short Message Services are provided by the network (as Engineer has
alluded. Messages are sent to a SMS Center were they are stored and routed.

In GSM, Messages can be up to 160 characters long, but are typically much shorter.

There is no such thing as a Nokia version.

I'm surprised that the CDMA providers don't offer it. In GSM SMS messages can have validity periods assigned to them (from 1 hour up to 1 week. This allows the SMS center to 'hold' messages for a period of time to optimise routing and channel loading.

Thanks (re: single packet). Is IWF something that can be easily integrated / included with CDMA systems around the world? I'm thinking that some countries when evaluating CDMA vs GSM/GPRS could opt for the one that does instant messages... little things like that can influence decisions, as irrational as it may seem.
