paul -
Do you think this move by CPQ is good or bad for Sun? If you believe the press, CPQ is pulling back on Alpha NT to concentrate on the Unix business. Any thoughts?

Do I have this right? CPQ will continue development of IA64 with MSFT on the Alpha platform until Merced is available to complete the code. Up to this point both IA64 ant NT64 have been developed on a single codeline, but there will not be continued development of NT64 code on Alpha.

This should generate at least 20 questions among the cognicenti on this board.

But what is especially relevant is the statement that Jim Boak negotiated the construction around the Redmond campus on August 25 to inform Microsoft that CPQ was dropping NT64. That is not all that long ago. It would seem that "Compaq Classic|" lives on.
