<<But we have members who are soooo brave, much braver than me : they refuse to have a social security number, dont file taxes, and basically do as they please.>>

I thought only the Christian Scientists did that!!

I have to disagree with this attitude. Living in a responsible republic is better than a purely liberatarian society. Pure liberatariasm (sp?) is very near anarchy. Everyone will not be responsible for themselves, it is a fact of human nature.

That is why the local governments need to set social and moral controls. I don't want dope heads camping in my backyard "cause it's a free country man!" I don't want nudists walking around outside schools. Call me old fashioned.

But, if you want this, in a pure republic, you should be able to find a state and local government that is willing to allow it. If you don't you get enough friends togethor and move to one locale, and swing the vote in your favor. Now, isn't that more reasonable?

btw, I'm a card carrying libertarian myself, the other two constitutional republicans in the US don't live in my state.

The one thing that really scares me about this thread is that in demonizing the federal government you are also portraying Koresh as some sort of hero. The man was sick and, though i feel those who were sucked into his deception suffered unjustly because of a government foul-up, he needed to be stopped. I disapprove of the actions the ATF and FBI deployed, but I'm more afraid of a living time bomb like that nut being in my community than of jack-booted thugs.

Being active with the Libertarians certainly helps moves the ball forward. I was an active member for a while a few years ago. We didn't get many votes but we had a good time! We had a hard time getting new people to join, it seemed to always be the same group of people organizing and doing things. I like to think our efforts raised some people's consciousness.
