steve, that is one nice looking machine. Looks cheaper than trying to build a permanent one (talking about the "cocktail pro"). I like it. I still prefer my Weber & hickory for cooking verses gas. I too am working on a little outside entertainment area. Great idea.

Enjoy your holiday, I got one invite for Grilled Dove Breast. Can't wait.

Hi SoCal, Where'd you go to school? BTU?

Me? I still have an old Weber kettle in which I burn real, honest hardwood charcoal. None of those dang black eggs from Kingsford! You know, those things with six units of ash for each unit of carbon.

Last night it was marinated chicken breasts on the grill (seven minutes a side for the boneless). Fresh garden tomatoes sliced thin and arranged each with a slice of brick cheese and fresh slices of onion. Fresh spinach salad with bean sprouts, water chestnuts, bacon and home made balsamic vinegarette dressing. Apple pie with cheddar on top for me, blueberry pie for everyone else.

The deer ate more of this year's apples than I did. I managed to pick some of the pears before the over-sized rodents got them, however. Right now there's two bambies lounging in the back yard near the ravine. They'll sit there for hours chewing their cud while Mama Deer patrols the along the edge of the ravine. My cats have learned not to mess with these white tails. Usually not aggressive, they will stomp their feet and make aggressive houghing sounds if they don't like what the cats are doing. It's rather comical to watch a (?) three month old fawn still in spots doing this!

Recently I've been able to approach the mother and the two young to within about 20 feet. If I'm relatively still, they just look me over and then go about their business. Should I see if I can catch one for you?

The drive over to LaCrosse, WI (on the 'other shore' of Wisconsin) was beautiful. It would appear that Wisconsin is in for another bountiful harvest. Our sweet corn has been the best ever this year. This is the time of year I like to put up a gallon or so of my home-made salsa from the goodies I find at the farmers markets. The news about drought on the eastern seaboard is distressing after seeing how kind Mother Nature has been here in my home state. State Highway #33 runs from Port Washington on Lake Michigan to LaCrosse on the Mississippi and is one of those drives that needs do be done to appreciate what the glaciers did to landscape Wisconsin. Western Wisconsin doesn't have the majesty of the Rockies or the feeling of age that the eastern mountains have. It's just a beautiful series of hills and vales, farmed tops and bottoms with forests on the sides. It makes me think of scenes described in "The Hobbit." If Bilbo Baggins is still alive, I'm sure his residence is out there in western Wisconsin.

Maybe if you make it to Port this Fall, I'll see if I can torch off some fresh bratwurst on that old Weber. I usually boil them in beer and onions first then just a quickie to color them up on the grill.

Best regards, Tom
